How to get my hamster to chew on his wooden chews?

My dwarf hamster has 2 wooden chews and a cardboard tube in his cage. He chewed on the wooden chews for a while and then gave up on them. He chews on the cardboard tube, but I’m not sure if that’s helping wear his teeth down…Are there other alternatives than chew toys? Or how do I get him to chew on his chew toys? I was thinking of buying a dog biscuit or mineral wheel but I’m not very sure. Any help is appreciated!

Wooden chew toys for hamsters, do they cause splinters??

I’ve had my dwarf hamsters for about a year now, and they’re FINALLY starting to use the wooden chew toys I bought them when I first got them. They’re vigorously chewing the toys down, and there are now wood shaving everywhere. I try to clean it up as much as I can, but has anyone had any experience where their hamster got splinters from wooden chew toys??
