Are untreated wooden guinea pig toys safe?

I’m thinking about making my guinea pigs some toys out of the logs I have from a tree we had to cut down in the garden. Will this be safe or do I have to treat the wood in a special way?

It depends what kind of tree it is
And it HAS to be untreated, treated wood is very bad to eat
