Wooden Gerbil Toys for Single Male?

Anyone know of any decent priced wooden gerbil toys- focused on burrowing if possible- or DIY guides on how to make them? It is for a single young male gerbil in a gerbilarium who likes to dig.
Um.

…Serious answers only, please. I’ve looked on ebay, and they have decent things, but fairly expensive.
I’m afraid he can’t have a friend. He’s too old, been on his own too long.

  2. I’m not entirely sure what you mean by a "wooden gerbil toy focused on burrowing" – do you mean a tube toy? I’m just going to assume that’s what you mean, and if I’m wrong, uh … sorry! XD

I’ve actually been contemplating this toy right here:

It looks more "diggy" than other wooden tubes I’ve seen, and it’s also pretty cheap at that website (which is quite an excellent vendor).

I also really like the knot nibblers:

That one I have tried before, and it doesn’t last very long, but it drives them crazy!

Look around at your local pet store for applewood twigs as well – those are always good.

I don’t know your gerbil’s circumstance, but I must be nosy and make sure you know that gerbils are happiest in same sex pairs. If you haven’t already tried, please consider introducing him to a friend. In the source I’m linking you to the American Gerbil Society’s gerbil care handbook, which includes detailed instructions on how to do so safely.

Edit: If you’re sure your gerbil needs to be on his own, that’s fine! You’re doing the right thing by making sure he’s getting lots of attention and things to do.

I’m sure your gerbil will be very happy with his toys!

  6. You seem to feel it is not possible, but a new friend is the best toy you can offer. There are very few gerbils who can’t be introduced to a new friend, especially males. Find a reputable breeder at http://www.agsgerbils.org/Breeders.html (American Gerbil Society) to help you. A new gerbil friend will cost less, last longer, and give him far more joy than anything else you can buy or do for him.

If there’s no breeder near you, find a pet store who can sell you a male pup 5-6 weeks old and follow the instructions here:

    Good luck!
