saracmd asked:
My friend had this toy when she was younger, and I always wanted one….
Its probably hand made from a craft show. Its approximately 5 small flat rectangles of wood laid out in a line with two ribbons weaved in and out between the blocks. When you hold them uo, they stay attached, but if you hold it by the second block down, the top block tumbles down the row of blocks to the bottom, and the second block that yuour holding on to then becomes the top block. Its a very neat toy!
Im wondering has anyone ever heard of seen, or own this toy? Do you know what it is called, or a place (preferably a website) that i can find it? Or does anyon know any history about the toy or helpful hints to help me find it?
Thank you for your time! this means alot to me to find this information!!!

Yes, I know what you are talking about. It’s called a Jacob’s ladder. You can check it out here. If the link doesn’t work, do a search and it should come up with photos and all.

I had one of these when I was a kid–have no idea what they were called. Since I am a very Old Party indeed, can affirm that these were around in the 1940’s in the US. I’d Google one of the following: ‘wood children’s toys’, ‘wood toys and puzzles’, ‘antique toys’. From whatever comes up, you should be able to link into websites that would direct you to other sites that would include pictures of the toys of yesterday. As I recall, these were still around in toy stores when my own kids came along [late 1950's and 1960's] and one source I remember seeing these in was import shops in Chinatowns in both Los Angeles and San Francisco… in with the backscratchers and water-flowers and the like. You might check thru Google by adding the words ‘Chinese import’ to any of the suggested topics above. Good hunting!
