Don H asked:
With current toy recalls, I am not sure how to find reliable store with safe, no-lead kitchen set for pretend play. All suggestions are welcome, but wooden kitchen toys are my preference.
DVD’S Under $1

they dont have to be made specifically for play…
how about a regular old wooden spoon, some measuring cups, a spatula, and batter spoon, maybe some tupperware containers, a wisk…

I believe you are looking for kitchen play set which has a toy stove, fridge and maybe pretend sink??? There are many choices from colored wooden kitchen sets to solid wood unfinished pretend kitchen toys. Colored stove/fridge toys can be hand painted here in USA and considered to be with lead-free paint. Some other kitchen toys are made by very reliable manufacturers. KidKraft kitchen sets or Guidecraf kitchens are very safe. But if you still have concern in regards to the paint, choose natural finish kitchen sets for pretend play, which are just covered with non-toxic oil-finish. Their kitchens are on sale: and many to choose from… I think shipping is also free.

Plan Toys makes adorable wooden kitchen toys. You can find them on. Go to ‘pretend play’ and you’ll find them. I absolutely love the wooden food they have and it’s fairly inexpensive, though it looks very expensive and high quality.
Oops – try “kitchen and store play” to find most of the items.

All that for $70 and free shipping!

I just got the wooden kitchen they sell at target, and we tested it for lead paint with those home test kits and it came back negative. It is super cute and the best one we found for the money. Pottery Barn also makes a really cool kitchen, not sure about the lead thing, but it is pretty pricey.
