  2. Wood….could sliver, may need refinishing eventually.
    Plastic….cleanable, sanitizable…..I vote plastic.
Wood is beautiful, but realisitally, plastic cleans better.

  3. Plastic. You don’t have to be flashy or expensive. I have a daughter so I got a regular BIG purple plastic bin for her toys and she loves it. I got it from Walmart.

  4. plastic, if you get a wooden 1 and the kid falls on it, it’ll hurt alot more than a plastic 1 would

  5. I like the wooden ones. They seem to be sturdier and smell great! I bought a TRUE wooden toy chest from a craft fair for my daughter. She loves it.

Plastics easier though. My son has so many “toy sets” (like Geo-Trax, Spiderman toys, etc) that most are divided up into those big plastic totes. He even has one with 3 drawers in it so that he can keep all his littler toys together. It doubles as a bedside table. And the plastic totes stack easily in his closet.

Just pick the one that works best for your child and your household.

  6. Don’t buy a toy box specifically. What I have found works great for toys are the Rubbermaid or Sterlite clear bins, and the bins on wheels.

  7. I would go for plastic, but make sure you get one that doesn’t close on their own. Kids have been known to get their heads caught and strangle on them.

  8. Plastic toys but make sure to check the lead, wooden toys could leave splinters and be very harmful.

  9. Got mine at Toys R Us, I think the brand is First Steps. It is plastic. The lid opens up and slides back so that you don’t have to hold it up. Above the box part there is a couple of shelves that work great for books or other toys that are played with more often. It came in two different colors, Pink and White, and Gray and Red. I didn’t care for the wooden ones because the hinges looked like it would be easy to pinch fingers.

  10. Plastic is best. Anything Little Tikes brand is best. I got it from good ol’ Kmart.

  11. Never like the plastic ones, because when they get old and they start to crack, causing a hazard. Kids want to climb and jump on it. Wood is better, just don’t get the kind made out of press wood, because has a formagihide clue (chemicals) that outgasses for the kids to breath. If you see any wood toy boxes, please turn it over to besure the wood is not a verneer that is covering the press wood.

  12. Honestly, we currently use a huge cardboard box for our daughter’s toys. She’s at that age where she likes to scribble on EVERYTHING and we dont have to worry about her scribbling on the cardboard because its easily disposable. But her daddys making a wooden toybox for her and is nearly finished so the cardboard will be gone soon.

I did see a really nice plastic toybox at Toys R Us though. It was a Little Tikes box. It was nice but very expensive and way too small to hold all the toys a kid gets.

  13. For wood, you will want to get it from a furniture store, because they will sand it down and they will put veneer over it as a coating to make it smooth. I just earlier this year we finally threw out my old wood toybox, ive had it for 20 years. It never gave me a splinter.

Plastic can be weak and if they climb on it, can become a hazard. If you wanna to plastic do Sterilite Plastic rolling boxes with an easy lid that comes all the way off.
